Leg drawings by Jody Steel(10 PICS)

“Currently studying Film Production at Emerson College, I’ve worked on several student thesis films as production designer, concept artist, set dresser, makeup artist, writer, editor, and director.

I’ve been hired as an illustrator for “Steaming into a Victorian Future: A Steampunk Anthology” and have been commissioned as a freelance Production Designer, Concept Artist, and Graphic Designer.

I have worked with a variety of mediums and styles ranging from oil painting to experimental film. I aspire to work in the film industry as a concept artist and intend to pursue illustrating and writing.

I find motivation and inspiration from my professors, family, and peers.”

Illustrations From Lost Stories – The Art of Van Renselar(10 PICS)

Abstract artist Van Renselar has travelled extensively. He grew up in South Wales, moving to London in his teens, where he now lives and works. After committing himself fully to abstract painting 10 years ago he has rapidly become one of the most original of the emerging contemporary artists in the UK.

HOW THE PICTURES ARE CREATED

“I create my pictures in 3 stages…

Firstly I hand draw and paint all elements of each picture on paper, fabric, board, found objects or whatever comes to hand that I think will help create the effect I’m after. I often paint directly on screen (digital painting). There are typically 10-20 elements.

Secondly I scan all separate elements into a computer using a very high resolution scanner and blend them with my digitally painted elements. At this stage I can place the elements exactly where I want them and even make any adjustments to colours if I wish. Think of this stage as if you were making a collage. This results in a single computer file.

Thirdly, I can now output (print) the computer file using the giclee process. Giclee needs to marry the inks and the canvas or paper to guarantee light fastness, and gives an incredibly high quality image.”

The username means, literally, “Shadow Wave” or “Wave Shadow.” The first part was given to me by friends, the second a choice…

I haven’t really had much art education… For me, my pieces are words or phrases that move me (those would be the titles), and emotions or thoughts that I try to express.
When I’m actually working with the piece, I don’t really think about the tones or lighting or contrast or other artistic terms… I just keep adjusting it, making little changes until it “looks right” to me.
So, on photoshop, I will sometimes run a piece through ten or fifteen layers until I get the look that I want… I’m sure many of you have had the same experience, though. Art is a movement, an expression, a means to create… but most of all it is pure soul and raw emotion.”
